About

Sportisphere is a blog about everything sports! I'm Jimmy Michaels and to me, sports are my life. I eat, sleep, and breath sports. This blog reflects my passion for them, as I cover sports nationally and especially from my hometown, Seattle.

I'm from Seattle, Washington which gives me a pretty unique outlook on sports. In just the 13th largest television market, we are nowhere near as fortunate to be graced with powerhouse teams that some other major metropolitan cities have. With that comes an appreciation for what it takes to win. Long have I suffered the sports depression that comes with watching our teams go year in and year out without playing meaningful games. However, when a winning team does come around, or something good actually happens, I tend to appreciate it on a much larger scale.

It's a funny story how I decided to become a journalism major. Up until my junior year in High School, I was positive I wanted to be an engineer. I was good at making things, visualizing concepts, and I just seemed like the perfect man for the job. Then came my junior year American Literature class. Instead of the busy work that teachers in English classes often seem to give, my teacher decided to make us write journal prompts every day. Every now and again, he would give us the chance for a "free-write" where we could choose the topic. Naturally, I chose sports. And that's when I found out I wanted to be a sports journalist. Never before had I enjoyed writing so much in my life, and I knew that this could really lead to something big. From that point on, I completely switched gears and decided to become a journalist.

I am currently attending the University of Missouri to study journalism. As the first journalism school in the world, "Mizzou" offers some of the best hands-on experience and teaching available in today's world of education. There I will pursue my dream to one day become a sports journalist for a major sports media company. Through my writing and other extracurricular activities in my pursuit of that goal, I hope to attain the knowledge and experience it takes to become that top-notch journalist I know I can be.
